Capital Project Description: This new elementary school will be located at the intersection of Mussetter Road and Whiterose Drive, north of MD Rt. 144. The school will have a state rated capacity of 882 students. The new school will primarily alleviate capacity issues at Oakdale Elementary School, but it is also intended to help balance enrollments across a total of six elementary schools, per the redistricting study approved by the Board of Education in March 2025. Elementary School #41 will utilize the same prototype design as the new Yellow Springs Elementary School. A County supplemental appropriation in June 2024 funded the design portion of the project in the current budget. The County Executive is proposing to fund 100% of construction costs in FY2026 to accelerate the project, due to the extreme need for elementary school capacity is this part of the county. State limited planning (LP) approval is anticipated for May 2025, and the Board of Education will officially name Elementary School #41 prior to the school’s anticipated opening date of August 2026.
