Capital Project Description: Liberty ES is a multi- story building, with nearly 43,000 square feet, originally constructed in 1927 with additions in 1950, 1967 and 1982. Other than a minor renovation in 1982, there have been no other significant renovations of this school, and the facility condition is rated critical. A feasibility study to define the scope of work was completed in April 2019. The Board of Education voted to replace the existing school to provide a modern facility to meet the current educational specifications and curricular requirements. The school has a current SRC of 274; the replacement school is anticipated to have a state rated capacity of 725. The State of Maryland will not participate in 100% of the new seats at this time. The Board of Education has not yet had conversations about school consolidation or redistricting to maximize State participation in the project. Those conversations and pending decisions will determine local participation.
