Capital Project Description: Monocacy Elementary, originally constructed in 1989, has had no renovations or additions. The limited renovation will upgrade deficient systems throughout the entire building, make limited changes to the building layout, improving the main office and health suite and adding support spaces that are not currently available. Building and ADA code compliance is also a priority. Other changes will improve the building finishes, including repainting interior and exterior surfaces, replacement of ceiling tiles (including sprinkler heads), replacement of some flooring and repointing exterior bricks, where needed. Monocacy Elementary School was recommended for a limited renovation in the 2021 FCPS Educational Facilities Master Plan (EFMP), which was approved by the BOE in June 2021. FCPS standard educational specifications for elementary schools, modified for the building size of the existing MoES, is used for this limited renovation project. The newly renovated MoES building will have a state rated capacity (SRC) of 504 students and will meet all current national, state, and local building codes.
