Capital Project Description: Middletown High School is located at the north end of the Middletown school campus. The administration and classroom portions of the building are a single story with a gym and pool located on a lower level. The building was originally constructed with an open space design in 1974. Additions and renovations enclosed most of the open space classrooms in 1997 and 1998, resulting in a total area of 189,641 GSF. Middletown HS has a state rated capacity of 1,328 with enrollment as of September 2022 of 1,081 students. The Board of Education conducted a feasibility study of the Middletown Campus and approved the feasibility study recommendation for a replacement high school in February 2023. The capacity of the replacement school will be finalized prior to the start of the design process based on population projections. Construction of the replacement high school will take place on the existing campus. The actual location on site will be determined during the first phase of design when a campus master plan is prepared. Design of the high school replacement project is expected to begin following construction of the co-located schools.
