Board of Elections Mission Statement

The Frederick County Board of Elections is committed to providing all eligible citizens of the County convenient access to voter registration; to provide all registered voters accessible locations in which they may exercise their right to vote; to promote fair and equitable elections; and to maintain registration records and other election-related data accurately and in a form that is accessible to the public.

The Board of Elections conducts county, state, and federal elections. It is responsible for maintaining voter registration; selecting early voting locations and polling places; hiring and training election judges; administration of the nursing home and assisted living program; and receiving candidate filings. The office creates and alters precincts as needed, based on the -expanding voting population. Currently, there are over 200,000 registered voters in the County.

In January 2023, the Board of Elections moved into its new home at 8490 Progress Drive, Frederick MD. The increased amount of space and updated work areas for staff will provide a better customer service environment for our Frederick County voters, allow us to add additional security measures, as well as add more quality control to our processes in our ongoing effort to improve our operations. Voter registration continues growing each year. We will be opening a 5 th early voting location, as well as expanding the use of ballot drop boxes beginning with the 2024 Presidential Elections.

Extending Voter Outreach expanding voter registration will drive voter outreach and education efforts throughout the County. We will extend our outreach at community events, including Frederick Pride and In the Street. Grow our partnerships with Frederick County Public Schools, Hood Frederick Community College to provide voter registration and election judge recruitment opportunities. We will continue to train citizen voter registration volunteers, either individually or as part of community organizations.

Enhancing Mail-in Voting Mail-in voting has increased significantly since 2018, in part due to the changes driven by the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020, and the newly available Permanent Mail-in Voter List, which allows voters to request automatically receiving their county, state and federal ballot by mail. These changes continue to drive the goal to enhance the process and efficiency improvements to better serve the voters of Frederick County.
