Division of Aging & Independence The Division of Aging & Independence (formerly known as the Division of Senior Services) - individuals with disabilities, caregivers and veterans to age in place with dignity and independence. The Division has four areas of focus: Home and Community Connections (Community Services), Resource and Service Navigation (Client Services), Operations (Area Agency on Aging), and ! for adults with disabilities). The Division is positioned to " population, as well as serve those with disabilities, caregivers and veterans, working together to fulfill the Livable Frederick vision of a unique and vibrant community where everyone can live, work and thrive while feeling a strong sense of place and belonging. Vision Statement That all Frederick County residents are empowered, engaged, and equipped to live their best life. As the designated # # # ###$ % with disabilities live safely in their homes and communities with independence and dignity. The Division helps plan, develop, coordinate and deliver a wide range of long-term services and supports which promote the dignity and enrichment of life for persons over 50 years old, individuals with disabilities, caregivers and veterans.

The Division is designated as the Maryland Access Point (MAP) for Frederick County. MAP is a trusted source of information and assistance for Frederick County residents who need or want to plan for their immediate and future needs. MAP serves adults 50 years and older, individuals with disabilities, veterans, family members and other caregivers, and health or business professionals.

Following the pandemic, the Division of Aging & Independence reopened senior centers to the public in 2022 and in person activities and programs continue to grow in participation. It has been a joy to see friends reunite and hear laughter in the hallways. The virtual senior center increased its on-line and hybrid classes featuring education, personal enrichment, socialization, and health and fitness classes. Home delivered nutrition programs continue to be in high demand and recipients appreciate the on-going services and well checks. Maryland Access Point, health insurance counseling, caregiver and case management assistance provide services that support the desire of older adults to live in

the community. The Division of Aging & Independence remains active and committed to serving older adults and individuals with disabilities, caregivers and veterans, so that each individual can achieve their desire to remain at home and in the community where they are known and valued. The Division will utilize the framework of social determinants of health to quantify its programs and services. Social determinants of health are the non-medical factors that influence quality of life and fall into five broad groups: Access to healthcare, Economic stability, Education, Social and community life, Housing/neighborhood.
