Division of Planning & Permitting

Development Review & Planning The Development Review & Planning Department performs multiple functions, serving primarily as the clearinghouse for private and public land development proposals subject to review by the Frederick County Planning Commission, pursuant " # Article. Staff are responsible for the timely preparation of Planning Commission meeting agendas, staff report and legal advertisements and notifications, including the preparation of public presentations and meeting minutes on all land development proposals. Zoning administration functions are also the responsibility of the Development Review and Planning Department. Duties of staff in the zoning office include: processing of zoning certificates; zoning inspections and the issuance of violations; and administering/interpreting the Zoning Ordinance. In addition to the Planning Commission as noted above, staff is also responsible for the administration of the Board of Appeals and the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and administering the Forest Resource and Adequate Public Facilities Ordinances. Permits &Inspections

Permits & Inspections staff administer permit application and plan review, inspection and code enforcement services to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Frederick County. The Department is responsible for the issuance of Building Permits, Life Safety, Electrical and Plumbing Permits, Use and Occupancy Permits, Gaming Permits, and other related permits throughout Frederick County (excluding the City of Frederick and the Town of Mt. Airy). The Department also provides stormwater management

permitting and plan review and storm water management/sediment erosion control inspection services.

The Department also processes and reviews development applications and permit applications in a fully electronic format $ % & '' nch of a paperless plan review, permits, and inspections processing tool in December of 2019. IPS, the Infor land management software tool, allowed for a seamless transfer to a paperless environment. The Department continues to implement enhancements of software to further assist our customers and continue to provide our normal and customary services of the Division.
