Capital Project Description: The County conducted a Rural Broadband Study in FY20 / FY21 that identified three ³ Category ´ areas within the County, encompassing approximately 3,000 homes, that lack adequate broadband service. These areas are in the north west, north-east, and southern sectors of the County. The study also identified a number of other, smaller areas, where there are significant pockets of homes lacking adequate broadband service. The study estimated the cost of providing service to the three Category 1 areas at $21M. As a result of the more rural nature of all of these areas, broadband vendors will not provide service to these homes without significant financial support from local, state, and/or federal agencies. We expect the State Rural Broadband Program to continue to provide matching funding for these types of projects to the Category 1 areas. FY22 shows an initial funding of $1M. The second phase of the project is should be covered in future fiscal years with possible federal and state funding sources.
