The high school level is projected to increase by approximately 1,582 students over the seven-year period. Currently, there are four high schools at or over 100% of state rated capacity, and system-wide there is a projected deficit of 1,291 seats. The Brunswick High School replacement project is anticipated to add 63-seats of new capacity in the six-year CIP. The overall enrollment/capacity rate at the high school level will increase from the current level of 98% to 108% over the seven-year period. A new high school is anticipated in the ten-year planning period, with these two projects adding 1,663-seats of new high school capacity. In addition to capacity needs, the Board of Education continues to maintain older schools and assess schools in need of renovation, taking into account the age and facility conditions of the facility. The Board strives to balance the need for new seats with renovation of older schools to ensure equity of facilities for all school communities. The goal is to renovate schools at approximately 35 years of age and to replace schools at approximately 70 years of age. Renovation projects are now listed as Limited Renovations Projects. The first two Limited Renovation projects completed were the Thurmont Elementary School and Monocacy Elementary School. The priority listing request for funding is arranged by level and is included in the Educational Facilities Master Plan. Using the priority listing prepared by the Board, the County will fund additional projects as funding permits in the future. For FY26, two Limited Renovation projects are funded with local funding only, due to State funding limitations.
