Capital Project Description: The Division of Fire Rescue Hazardous Materials Response Team (HIRT) relies on various meters to detect chemicals, contaminants and radiation. As these meters reach the end of the useful life they need to be replaced to ensure the HIRT can effectively detect these threats. These meters are sensitive instruments that require regular calibration and maintenance, and as they age become more expensive to repair and keep in service. Due to the age of some of the devices parts to repair have become obsolete or unavailable and have rendered units out of service permanently. DFRS has developed a replacement schedule based on the age of current equipment and meters that are expected to become inoperable in the future.
