As shown in the table, Frederick County anticipates an increase in overall student enrollment of approximately 5,022 over the next seven years. In fact, student enrollment continues to increase in Frederick County at the highest rate in the state, with enrollments increasing even during the pandemic even while most other counties are seeing decreasing enrollments. To accommodate the additional enrollment anticipated and to address current capacity issues in certain areas of the county, funding is provided for the construction of seven projects through FY 2029. These projects will increase elementary school capacity by 1,984 seats and middle school capacity by 319. Currently, no new high school seating is planned before 2029 (School Capacity Project table), although additional high school capacity is planned within the ten-year planning period.
System-wide there is currently an excess of 382 elementary seats overall, but there are 15 elementary schools at or over 100% of capacity. The capacity rate of elementary schools has increased from last year from 93% to 99%. Brunswick ES, which will open in summer 2023, will add approximately 217 new seats. Five more schools, which are all listed as addition/replacement with one new school, along with several limited renovation projects are scheduled to receive construction funding in this CIP. This will add a total of 1,984 additional seats. ! "
